Hi folks!

Now you are a member of this forum, it would be great to present yourself. I mean, as an Atmo veteran, I've met dozen and dozen of people, and if I remember some of them pretty well, I really don't know everyone who registered here. Since there were subcommunities like Atmospherians and Afterlife, users who arrived and left at very different dates, groups of IRL friends and online friends, IRL meetings and so on, it would be great if everyone could write a short summary about herself in this thread.

Please make only one post in this discussion, and update it whenever you need to.

Here's what would be relevant, in my opinion:
1 - your Atmosphere nickname(s) if different from the name you registered here with,
2 - the date you arrived in Atmosphere, and left if you didn't wait for the end,
3 - the group(s) you belonged to and the community projects you participated to,
4 - the worlds you've built, the avatars you created, the websites you ran (screenshots of your creations would be great).

Once you finished your summary, please copy and paste its permalink on your account page. You should use a service like TinyURL to shorten your permalink's length, or it will break the layout. Look at my account page if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

This way, I think it will be easier to know who is who :)

Nickname
I first appeared in Atmosphere bearing the name of ZeRoBoY (or maybe zErObOy...). It was related to a sticky figure I invented a long time ago. Later, I even made it into an fully animated avatar, some of you may have seen it.
When I discovered the interesting process of changing my avatar whenever I wanted to, I started to change my nickname according to it. So I became ZeRoDuCk, ZeRoBoT, ZeRo[insert anything here].
Finally people started to call me Zero, and the name stuck.

Presence
I stumbled upon Atmosphere around the end of 2001. I was looking for a 3D engine which would allow me to build an interactive environment for one of my Fine-Arts school projects. I had no interest in chatting at all and had a very limited experience of the Internet, but one day I went to the Homeworld, and got instantly addicted. From what I know it was the first version of the Homeworld, the one with the flying Adobe cube.
I left a bit after the last build was released, partly because of a bug with the french version of Windows XP. Atmosphere without a chat became quite boring... And I had others IRL projects at the same time, so hopefully the withdrawal wasn't too painful.

Community
I'm a founding member of the Beach Club (strange, uh?) which became later the Afterlife Community, growing around the Afterlife world SR built. I was in charge of the Philosopher's Stone section of the Afterlife Magazine, writing monthly cyberphilosophic stuff in an quite average english. I was also the manager of the Limbo team, when the Afterlifers worked on a triple project including many worlds on the themes of Heaven, Limbo and Hell.
I was also here for the Afterlife Convention.

Works
I'll update this part later if I manage to exhume old files from my dusty CD-R collection... In short, my very first world was Please Don't Fall, which was built like a platform game level. People had fun jumping and running everywhere, and looking secrets hidden in hardly accessible places. Later I built The Raft, an aquatic world featuring a raft in the middle of the ocean (and Azul's jellyfishes). Then my memories become blurry. I created a bunch of mini-worlds for the Limbo project, and worked on a sound-based world with bones#0, and probably many other things.
In parallel I created tons of stupid avatars, like the frightening giant baby, the quite abstract ZeRoïd series, a small cubic robot making various noises, a mob of demonstrating testers, a roof to cover the second Homeworld's plazza...

I had a lot of fun, and that's why I started this forum: to have fun with all of you again.

Scented Nectar here. I started in Atmo when it was called 3dAnarchy, on the 2nd or 3rd day of the beta. I made a zillion free plant objects and other stuff. I have a screenshot page at Memories of 3dAnarchy

Hi folks :)
oUx here. You may remenber me for a bunch of avatars usually oriented with bad taste or a spicy provocative degree of distate. In particular, a tiby model of the Death Star beiing attacked by an x-wings squadron, a plane flying around two skycrappers, a drunk Christ swinging over his cross, and a whole serie of dead-testers. I've also been in charge, during the Afterlife big event, of some of the worlds to illustrate the Limbo.

I've made a few worlds, that i don't actually remenber. I shall rather mention that i've been the drawer of the After Magazine.

I've also been known, by the end, as the DRRL (Doctor Real), somewhat awful bastard of a crazy scientist who dedicaced his life to kill testers.

Okay, this is where keeping a blog comes in handy.

Nickname

I almost always went under the nickname “minger”. That was the nickname some classmates had given me in elementary school, and I had already started a personal website named “MingerWeb”. I would occasionally go under the name “quizzer”, a pun on “tester”, when I had two Atmosphere windows open. This was so that I would get confused which me was me. :^)

Some might remember the games I played in HomeWorld when I was bored: my nickname would begin changing every few seconds, keeping me at the top of the User list.

Arrival

I landed at HomeWorld 2001 (the second one) probably sometime in April 2002, a few weeks before the new HomeWorld and Community World were launched. I had just come from Adobe’s website, where I’d been searching for an update to Acrobat Reader (weren’t we all?) and found a small, light blue button banner advertising Atmosphere (beta). Being the fan of blue that I was, I clicked on the image and promptly followed the link to download Build 67.

Since I hadn’t ever used a 3D computer interface before, navigating through HomeWorld quickly gave me a headache, so I had to stop. When I felt better, I got back on and quickly got lost in Khufu. Later that day, I invited a friend from school to explore some of these worlds with me (I wasn’t big on chatting back then), and he figured out how to re-enter a world and explained what that weird bug-zapper sound was coming from. He caught on much faster than I did, probably because he was on a cable modem connection. Lucky him.

It should go without saying that I still haven’t left the Atmospherian community. :^)

Groups and projects

Like I said, I wasn’t really into chatting with anyone. Back then, there were a lot of worlds that were just fun to explore and get lost in, to wit: Cathedral, Coffee House, Dragon Mountain, Greek Theatre, Hall of Mages, Hex, Inn of the Last Home, Khufu, Lost Night, Marshes, Metropolis, Muse dAtmosphere, South Seas, Stonehenge, Tea Garden, Power Room, etc. Later, after Community World was launched, I started warming up to the community a bit.

(Being the sentimental person I am, I still have tons of these worlds bookmarked, along with their names, descriptions, and authors. Not sure what I’ll ever do with it.)

Worlds and websites

Eventually, I even got my own storefront in Community World (!). You can still visit my storefront using the MingerWorld Viewer, or by clicking on Building 7’s little boorbell in Community. (That’s Ctrl+Shift+Click for all you Build 67 users.) MingerWorld was the only world I ever published, though I might publish another just for fun. I made some attempts at doing a Larry the Cucumber avatar, but nothing really came of it. Besides, I much preferred Lightfoot’s Gumby avatar, which I always wore.

My MingerWorld website is still up, but my blog has moved to a separate domain. An Atmosphere user once informed me that “minger” wasn’t actually a flattering word in some languages, and I later found out that another website had stolen my name for a website that was less than tasteful. That website is gone, thankfully.

Yeah, I guess that was longer than I wanted to make this reply, but it’s all been pent up for a couple years now. That felt good.

Tis only me, Hi to all :)

Thought I'd pop in and say hi.
Francesca and I are still around, doing the occasional Atmosphere project.
This is our stats page
You can pull up a list of some of our worlds from there if there are no occupied worlds, or go directly to the link here

Feel free to use them as they are mostly chat enabled.
We have quite a few others as well but I can post a link at a later date if anyone is interested.

Good to see some of the old names are still around :)

Hey all Nice to see these names again.

I walked in to Atmos while looking on how to make cool looking 3d websites, I landed in Homeworld and Bunny was there and my loving Demon Apk. In no time I was doing my own building (remembers her barn) then the next project i had to take on was Avatars event forget what year it was. It seemed like my builds keeped getting bigger Isengaurd and just before Atmos closed I made the WTC to scale with 3 other buildings around it and the fountain, which never made it to the net, Atmos was not strong enought to rended it even is pieces, Bahmen and the Adobe team even tried to render it and all i go back was you put a big hurt on our program. mahahahahaha.

The last Group project I did was Star Wars in Atmos and great people I worked with to make it all happen. I still have alot of the Star Wars stuff up online just cant take my self to taking it down, Oh and I would like to say Woo Hoo Minger made it, if you wonder why I said that take a look at the old Star Wars site.

After Atmos I ended up going back you college *thinks at my age* and I am now a 3d Animator for games, moves and Tv. I spend my extra time in Active worlds and now am building objects for it to help keep my low poly modeling skills up. I have seen a few ppl there from Atmos *Stewie USA, and Challager the most* But I still miss the days of old sitting around bugging newbies.

Great to see you all

Pleeeeaaase avoid using this discussion for anything else than introducing yourselves :)

/evil administrator mode on
I'd just like to keep this thread clean of chit chat, greetings and so on. I know it's hard to avoid saying hello when someone post here - I have a hard time avoiding to say hello myself - but if we keep going this way, it will become a huge mess as new members will come and add their summaries. If you really want to reply here, please use whispers. I've made your different comments private, so only the person you initially talked to can read them now.
/evil administrator mode off

I'll hide this soon pointless comment in a couple of days :)

Ok here goes a long intro...

Nickname: Knight
Infact it was always Knight and never ever changed. Developed from the term KnightRider, then moving into Atmosphere it went to Knight. As I was always more fond of Medieval than David Hasselhoff...

Date Arrived The date I arrived is kinda missing in my head right now. However, I can say it was about a month after its release to the public. I found it like almost everyone else. I stumbled across it by looking at Adobes website for nothing inparticular and BOOM!

Groups Heh, well...
Afterlife, Trifroce, and many other small groups... I took park in a lot of small details in a lot of worlds.

More stuff: My first world was the Dragon temple, along with the Dragon avatar. The world started off as a la de da good for nothing type world. By hanging around GemFox and Hando, I soon grew a darker side. To say the least that world went dark... The next world I developed was the Grand Opera house, which I entered into the Adobe $1000 dollar contest. Which was beaten BIG time by Dark City... George and his amazing design...
After picking at Rolu, Hando, LightFoot, Amasci, and other various programers and attending many EARLY on tech talks. I realized I had enough knowledge to make a game. Hence the next set of worlds. The Beach, and Battle World arrived. These beach I updated twice, and let it go after that. It used the glorious subworld swaping to animate a waterfall and used the old fasioned object.collide = 3; Before Havok!!! The beach also had the first Atmosphere wave, that nearly wipes out the island.
The Battle World was found deep within the island, and upon entering you find yourself in a dungeon. In this dungeon many I'm sure remember battling a spider, and loosing MANY times... As it was the evil chez what spider. This world believe it or not went into a massive upgrade before Atmosphere went to the grave. To say the least, it now has 3 fighting styles including the orignal. Ill have to pull it out of the grave some time...

Other worlds, I created Nirvana, which was used for a Halloween party that indorsed Triforce. From that I then made a sequal world called Dreamscape Nirvana. This revised world used many elements that were seen in "The Beach", but made them bigger and better. Starting off in a Pavilion with VP transparent glass. Across the way out in towards the ocean we would see a lens flare. Upon looking closer out there was a swing, and a waterfall in a secluded oasis. The new Ocean affect, included texture moving, and slightly more realism than that of the Beach.

Other worlds, JezzBall 3D "Game", Lightning World, SSX "Massive hill to slide down...", and others.

Avaters I created quiet a few some annoying some not.
Rocket Man Default "Used the Dragon Fly script", God Default "Yes He had the hole world in his hands...". and many others that remain nameless within my brain...

Other projects I had but did not finish, A Flight Simulator "Worked half way but needs couple elements", and well my mind went blank again on some others...

Amongst all that, I still have all these things on my harddrive. Maybe ill have to try to resurect some of em...

Anyways cheers!

Nice to see everyone in the same place again. Wish it was in 3D and w/chat.
Although not the AtmoCaveman anymore, still pretty much the caveman w/the 'puter.

Been playin' around W/Blink. There was, briefly some worlds up and running w/chat, but atm chatless. That hopefully will change soon.

Not going to mention all the Atmo stuff although I really started getting involved w/SR and SB back on the beach. LOL Hopefully will hear from them again. Again, nice to see everyone and will be checking back in here.

Hi there, Everyone! Great to see so many familiar names.

I mainly used my real name, although did go by Lyndorian briefly when I first got into Atmo.
I found atmosphere...ahh..can't remember the exact year, but it was around 2001/2002. And I never looked back.
Participated in the Star Wars event and the Lord of the Rings events - both were so much fun having everyone build to a theme. Oh and near the end, we also participated in a Fairy Tale project that was headed up by Atmowire.
Too many worlds to list, but you can find them at Martin's link above. :)

Hi all

I named myself "bones" after seeing (and using) the default-skeletton avatar. Soon later I met another guy called "bones" and decided to switch to "bones#0" because I was the first one there (Programmers start counting at 0 ;-)

When I became able to build my own avatars I normally used the "shuttle" (a little, roughly star-trek-style shuttlecraft) and, later, the "Empty Monk"; a faceless guy in (or made of?) a mainly black coat (http://www.p-guhl.ch/kreativ/atmosphere/avatars/littlemptymonk/viewer.png).

My first atmosphere viewer was something like beta 43 (or was it 53?). I guess I started building worlds somewhere in 2001. Things like "Tranquilitas Island", "The Shuttlebay", "Bones' HW" (done mainly at the Afterlife Convention), the "Questions" and a couple more.

Some time before Atmosphere died I left. It was around the time it got to final and started to cost money I did not have (no chance for a free version since I only had posted once or twice into the Adobe Forum over the years). I was still saving money when I heard that it was over.

My worlds are still hanging around at http://www.p-guhl.ch/kreativ/atmosphere/ but hardly any of it works. I tried to port some of them to the new format but collision did not work anymore. So I stopped it.

Regards
Peter

Hi friends,

Nickname: Erny
Date arrived: approx. February 2001
Groups: Afterlife
Worlds: Cave Island - Kraut Grill - Volcano Island - Nemo - Iceland
Avatars: Shawn (the sheep) - some tents as AFK avatar - Virus (red & blue)
Works: Woodgenerator - Watergenerator - Atmoworlds library
Site: www.ernys.de
===============================================================
After Atmo died I converted to the good old VRML and also could tranfer most of my Atmo worlds to it (because I didn´t build my worlds with the Atmosphere builder - they are MTX based). I am very happy with VRML. The performance is much better and by using blaxxuns multitexture option it´s possible to create very Atmo similar worlds. Caused by its textbased nature it´s also good to create dynamic contents. So I also add a VRML output to my Woodgenerator (MTX still available).
You can view my old Atmoworlds and my new VRML worlds from my site www.ernys.de. You will need a VRML plugin - I advice the blaxxun plugin (www.blaxxun.com).
For who are interrested in VRML I collected some usefull links on my site too.

So - hope to meet some of my old friends - greatings !!!

I first woke up in Atmosphere very close to the 26:th of March 2001, a web odyssey hehe! This date was the very date that Adobe released Atmosphere. I think I was looking for the latest version of Acrobat Reader and since I was on the Adobe site I poked around at some links to see what more there was to find.

One of the first things I did after finding out how to move around etc was to walk into a portal and I was beamd into the little church world. There I saw somthing moving!!!!!!!! WTF! Then "Hello" apeared on the screen and this thing seemed to want to comunicate with me??? I wrote "hello" ... briliant wit, aint'it? Then the thing said it was from Brazil and I said that I was from Sweden and then we said something more and the Brazilian disapeared. After a while another thing apeared, moved around and said it came from Finland. I thought I should check out if it was some kind ob robot so i typed something disgusting that ... will not be repeated! :P Nice thing to do in a church? ummm. The finish thing said "I'm not a robot I that is what you think, so stop swearing!" oooops! hahaha! First day in Atmosphere. Tester alert! Been there, done that! :D But I never asked how to shoot and where to find mor avaters, if that would save my soul!;)

BTW does anybody remeber
Hello tester! :) You can save your nickname under preferences ----------------------------------------->
:D :D :D
Where is Mystique when we need her? :P

The thing from Finland could have been Kojjoci ... but I asked him about it and he disn't remember anything about it. That was a cool dude under the hood! Totaly wild ideas! The funny thing is that the last we heard of him was that he had met a finnish woman in Brzil of all places hahaha. They where very happy and disapeared into reality I think!

After that I didn't do very much about Atmo, had some really corny nicknames but finally settled with BoxHumana, taken from my intrest or obsession really with audio and music. Vox Humana is Latin for the human voice, and also it's one of the registers on a church organ. When I built a little boxxy avatar I thought BoxHumana would go nicely with that, so ...

Groups .. well, I was part of Afterlife but I'm not sure what I did there hahaha! Had a great time and met a lot of fun people and went to the Convention! What a memory! Before that happend I built a physically huge world like a town in the clouds called MorningDew. I intended to build MorningDew II and have some sketches stuffed away somewhere on a hard drive. I built a lot of small test worlds to get javascripts to work and collected them on AtmoZone. Then the air went out of the atmosphere so to speak. I had lots of more tests up and running but lost momentum when nothing kept happening for too long so I sort of lost intrest for the whole 3D thing. I tried to keep an eye at www.pelicancrossing.com which is clive jackson's project called Blink3D. Extremly Atmo like and seem very cool, but maybe I'm happy without 3D :) But check it out!!!

Now I'm building a studio to record music instead ... much more fun!!! I'm trying to trick my old bandmates into thinking the same but they apparently is just into the music part of it, but that's OK too becaus then I'll have the studio my way! Way coooool!

Nickname

Well, I'm known In Real Life as Ptijerem, (which can be translated by "littl'Jerem" in english) but I appeared sometimes on Atmosphere in the body of an anonymous tester as Tijerem or Tijer, which becames Tiger... nickname which as a quite different meaning in english than his first one.

Presence

As you can see, my english is horrible...

At first I knew this parallel world because I spend a few nights in the week at drinking boose in the ZerO's flat with friends (OuX was also there). With the time, I interrested me to this funny community, but I didn't have any computer nor knowledge into 3D and video-games. So I made some drawings about ZerO, OuX, and later some of the attractive people who populate the Atmosphere worlds, and aspecially the Afterlife community.

These drawings have been put on the web by ZerO, and I started to draw a comic strip on the two mythological characters created for Afterlife: Captain Afterlife Vs Doctor Real. It was at the summer 2002.

Community

I have never been a real member of the Afterlife community but I regularly had fun with a few people of them, which are today propably registered here, in the body of a damned tester or behind the screen as caricaturist, member of the well closed community of the Drunk French Dudes. I was present too at the great Afterlife Convention at Petra's house... so much memories for only one week....!! :)

Works

I actually don't remember any more on which web-sites some of the drawings I made are still visible, but you can certainly ask ZerO.

Great to see you again after 4 years....

I'm prehistoric, and became extinct, I guess. I worked with mrk and three others on 3d Anarchy, which embodied the core technology that was sold to Adobe, further developed, and turned into Atmosphere. Among other things, I managed the external testing program in the 3d Anarchy days. After the Adobe era started, I did other things, so I'm about 7 years behind the news, and haven't done anything related to Atmosphere. I'm here to catch up on what happened while I was away. I think my nick was always vdicarlo.

Atmosphere Nickname: At first it was Heartsong, but after everyone kept calling me "Heart" I just went with that.

Date I Arrived: Ummmmmmmm dunno, but I know that a friend referred me. I know him as ThoughtKnox and a few other names, but can't recall if that's the name he used in Atmos.

Groups I belonged to: not sure I was in any...just kinda floated around and talked to everyone. Oh wait..there was that Atmos Support team we tried to start up.

Worlds, Avatars, etc: well I'm a HORRIBLE world maker. Made one for the LOTR event thingy. Also made a tour world...those were fun using portals to worlds...those changed every week. I'm an avatar making type person. Made a few angels for Afterlife Heaven/Hell worlds. Donated a bunch of avatars to Atmos. Avatar most worn was probably one of my little fairies....except at Christmas time...I'd wear Mrs Claus because Knight liked the flaw in it hahhaha.

hugs and smoochies to you all

What a long time ago it all was.

1 - your Atmosphere nickname(s) if different from the name you registered here with,
Dalek, named after my very first avatar, modelled on the Dr Who species

2 - the date you arrived in Atmosphere, and left if you didn't wait for the end,
I'm not sure when I joined, but it was pretty close to the beginning of the beta release by Adobe. I hung around on the edges for absolutely ages until I worked out that people weren't going to bit me, and could actually be friends.

3 - the group(s) you belonged to and the community projects you participated to,
Worked with Stephen Bell in the newsletter that started in August 2001, I did the Hitchhikers Guide to the Atmosphere. When Stephen had to pull out I kept the newsletter going about December 2002 when I merged with Petra (Softbabe) and Donza.

4 - the worlds you've built, the avatars you created, the websites you ran (screenshots of your creations would be great).

I created the Museum of Modern Art, and had started to expand it to include a Museum of Avatars. I had most of the standard ones offered by Adobe, both series, as well as a lot of the Lord of the Rings ones. I also build the Beltane fire world for Donza's Halloween celebration.

1 - your Atmosphere nickname
Originally it was cyberazteck, but people had started shortening it to cyber so I decided that since the nick was going to be used in a fantastically new 3D chat proggie (Atmosphere) the nickname should reflect what my personality was going to be in cyberspace so I changed it to Loquacious (talkative), after a while everyone shortened it to Loq and it stuck.

2 - the date you arrived in Atmosphere.
The exact date evades me, the first people I met where Knight and Lady Bunny in the first homeworld.
Then slowly but surely I began to interact with the still small Atmosphere community back then, meeting trully interesting people from arround the world.

3 - the group(s) you belonged to and the community projects you participated to,
Ah, the groups I belonged to, well I err.... you name it I was in it,
Began Afterlife with SR and Softbabe.

4 - the worlds you've built, the avatars you created, the websites you ran (screenshots of your creations would be great).
The worlds I created, THE LOFT was good one, there where so many , hard to remember them all.

Ah the memmories, why not relive them in a 3D chat world ?.
I would like to extend an invitation to all to meet and chat like the old days in one of my new chat worlds
here is the addy

Temple1

hope to see you all there

Loq

Since I'm here, thought I'd fill this out... well try anyway ;)

Nickname: Dreamgiver, mostly shortened to "dream" cos ya's are all lazy typers :P Think I created more nightmares than dreams... Although few french buddies should still remember not being arrested in Paris for gettin drunk under the Eiffel Tower :D Think we all scored some dreams that day ;)
Alt nick: Later on in atmo I coulda also been CLaw...

Date I arrived: Hmmm too long ago to remember... but I still blame Mick!!

Groups I belonged to: Afterlife, AtmosphereX, Cyber 3D, think I also joined a french revoloution at some stage but ya'd have ta ask Zero, Oux and Tijerem for confirmation <<-- was "very" drunk

Worlds and Av's: I guess Rlyeh and Bionecrom kinda stood out along with the demo worlds for Coca Cola and Iron Maiden. Workin with Rolu, JamesSF and SR on demo content for the atmo release without sleep for a month was "fun" :D
Av wise i still have nightmares about Oux askin "What's in Dreams Box"! Pinhead from hellraiser was probably my most renouned.
www.keltart.com featuring at Siggraph for atmos content kinda rocked (I still get emails asking where Rlyeh went lol)

I'm not online much these days, but great to see a few old names around here :)

Hope to drop in agin soon :)

A World Maker, now more comonly known as AWM Mars.

Joined Atmos after reading a magazine article and installing the Client software off the cover disc. I had been looking for the next generation 3D software that I could use to build clients proposed projects, so they could 'walk around' over the internet. Having spent several years using the ilks of AutoCad, and various 3D standalone programmes.

My first world was an Art Gallery consisting of 6 worlds linked lined to a central hub world for my Aunty, to test it over the internet I logged in for the first time and landed in Homeworld by default and thought I'd made a mistake in the url. There I found a couple of 'people' and started to become part of the Atmos community. I went on to create a Cruise Liner, a World War II airfield and a small Amputheatre.
When Homeworld was no more, I drifted into Worlds.com, There.com and then onto Second Life. After 2 years I developed a Machinima company called WBA-Advertising
From there, I founded a Virtual Modelling Agency, Virtual Media Equipment company, Virtual Media Production Company and a Virtual Business Solutions Company.

Avies.... well I had a few, probably the most familiar was the Formal one, with a bow tie and tux.

Once systems and connections became much more powerful, I used to login to The Cruise and wander around, thinking how jerky the whole thing was, until I realised the pluggin was set to throttle the connection by default, once unchecked, it was like being on steriods lol..

I have to wonder why Adobe dropped this programme, it remains the forefather to so many 3D environments of today, and could easily compete with a bit of development.

Glad I found this website, look forward to catching up with you all.
